Nigeria begets Hardship
Japan begets Technology
Switzerland begets Richness
India begets Information Technology
China begets Manpower
Ghana begets Good Election and Governance
My dear country begets Hardship
I woke up in the early morning of Saturday to notice that there is fuel scarcity in the Lagos metropolis and I wondered to myself once again;
Why would a cheerful giver continue to provide for other people while his people are impoverished?
Why would Nigeria boast of supplying oil to other countries of the world while his people keep on queuing for fuel.
I took a quick glance at the Lagos State Transport Management Authority Staffs that arrested petrol tanker drivers that led to the strike, which is now making us masses to suffer. Little did they know that their kids going to school today will also have to suffer with the hike in bus fares.
We generate electricity and supply to neighbouring countries, yet we suffer from blackouts all the time. We are now trapped into the use of generators, which had escalated production cost by manufacturing countries and in return, high cost of finished products.
Our water system is faulty as most houses now use alternative source; boreholes, wells and stream water.
Our roads are so dangerous that even in daylight, you need to open your eyes wide and be wary of potholes.
There is nothing to write about our health system because it does not exist.
Yet, our Government through the Minister of Information and Communication keep chanting; “Good People, Great Nation”. Are we not making a mockery of ourselves?
Why would I as a youth embrace their rebranding (definitely, not for us) when I have to queue for fuel, generate my power through use of generators, buy water from meruwas (water sellers), get scared of travelling on our highways, etc…
Why should we continue to hide the corrupt people under the auspices of setting up committees that end up wasting our resources and reports not considered or manipulated to suit themselves.
Eventhough, I am not a soothsayer, I could perceive revolution coming our away, I could see people chanting war songs, I could see lifeless bodies, I could see mass burials, I could see destruction of a country.
The youths must not think of their selfish needs but for their children yet unborn. That is when the reality can come to pass. Our reality is to drive our leaders into oblivion with their families.
Our dream is to see our children attend the best of schools with less fees, have access to 24 hours – 7 days a week uninterrupted power supply, good drinking water, proper and efficient health management system and they should be relaxed and secured when travelling on our highways.
If we continue to sit and look, Nigeria will continue on her path to destruction.
If we do not beget good elections and governance, Nigeria will continue to be marred with violence; there will be maiming and killing in the Northern region due to religious and political differences, there will be continuation of kidnappings and killings in the Niger Delta region and there will be incessant disappearance of people to be used for rituals in the South Western region.
If we do not beget development, the generations unborn might not see Nigeria. |
